About Us

Who is Westside Mage?

Hey Y'all!

I'm Amanda, artist and founder of Westside Mage Skate co. I originally started "Mage" because I was looking for another outlet and a creative way to share my art. As I dove head first back into the skating universe, I realized another problem existed as it did when I was a kid, which inspired me to do something different. Girls and women, especially girls and women of color, are under recognized, lack representation, and generally aren't as accepted as their male counterparts. I wanted to banish the idea that pink decks were the only decks for girls. I wanted to give back by offering young girls a deck that represented them and their uniqueness, something I didn’t get as a young skateboarding girl of color. A skate brand for the weirdos and outcasts in us all.

To be honest, although my first big art installation was a skateboard I made out of styrofoam, cardboard, and cutouts, this was't my first idea. The truth is, for weeks I prayed for guidance, and one day, I went to sleep with a notebook by my bed and when I woke up, the word "skateboards" was pulsating in my mind and stayed pulsating ALL DAY.

Skateboards, my first love other than painting. It made perfect sense. Thus Westside Mage was born. "Westside", because I was raised on the westside of South Los Angeles and "Mage" because it takes training and activating the magic in all of us, to make great things happen.

At Westside Mage Skate Co. we are dedicated to working with and supporting indie artists. Every quarter, we will be partnering with a different artist to bring you the dopest, most unique and weirdo worthy decks in the park. Yes, all of our artists are paid for their collaborations. So, you can rest assured your purchase will help keep them creating. We are always open to submissions. If you or someone you know would like to be featured, head over to our contact page and drop us a line! Thank you for checking us out and I hope we can be a part of your skate/ art collection for generations.
